Venus Retrograde

Dear Lexa:

First off, I have had several readings with you and absolutely love your work. Second, and the reason I am writing you, is the upcoming Venus retrograde. I have been reading some absolutely heinous things about what it may bring and was wondering if you could provide me some clarity. I am Libra, Taurus rising, Moon in Aries and Venus in Scorpio, my boyfriend is Scorpio, Leo rising, Moon in Gemini, Venus in Libra. It has always been a bumpy ride... but does this planetary arrangement mean we are about to capsize??

Thanks for the kudos and your concern is understandable considering the planet heavily influences you. Both Taurus and Libra are ruled by Venus so you will be especially tuned in to all the subtle vibrations of this retrograde.

In general, romantic relationships can be strained when the planet of love trips the light fantastic a la Ginger Rogers*, just as communications are strained when Mercury the messenger goes through his backward motion. However, because Venus is transiting through Virgo, a healthy fight in couple's therapy could clear up years of bad air. This will be a great time to get to the bottom of things and figure out what has and what is going wrong and therefore you can prevent future problems. Look out though because as the planet moves back through Leo (Aug 13 - Sep 8), the egos take hold and we must take care not to let pride defeat love.

The saving grace of this retrograde is that when Venus transits through Leo, she will also be conjunct Saturn. This dance with big daddy is very favorable for forming long and stable unions. (Although marriage is not recommended during the retrograde.) The key is to be responsible in relationships and show up for the more serious issues in life.

Through your combined charts, it looks like you will have strong reactions to both the Leo and the Virgo aspects of this retrograde. ah a busy schedule has made it almost impossible for me to blog. but I did not want to leave out the wonderful days of the weekend or the two days of sabbath: saturday and sunday. for most of us, they are days of rest and relaxation.

Wordy Wednesdays

Wednesday is associated with the Norse god Wodin or Odin, god of wind, excitement, words, and poetry. He is also a god of magic, war, wisdom, and prophecy. So powerful was his influence that the German word for Wednesday (containing his name) was changed to Mittwoch (mid week) by the Church fathers in an attempt to exorcise worship of Wodin.

Today is also sacred to the god Mercury. We can see his influence through the Spanish name for Wednesday - Miércoles. Mercury, or Hermes is the god of writing and communication. The alphabet and speech are sacred to him so you can see that today should be anything but wordless! It is the best day to work magick for creativity and success. It is also a wonderful day to have an important conversation or write a letter. In fact all kinds of writing are sacred on this day. It is also the best time to work magick to get another to call, email, or fax you. Here is the spell for that.

Take a piece of cotton and stretch it into the first letter of the name of the one you want to call. (for example, if you want Dave to call, shape the cotton into a D.) Now place this cotton letter near your phone, fax machine or computer. Surround the letter with a thin circle of dried fennel, oregano, dill, and caraway. These are all compelling and chatty herbs sacred to Mercury. Visualize the one you want to call and see him/her contacting you. This spell is very effective and can work within 10 minutes. Three days is the maximum time you should allow for spell to work.

Terrific Tuesdays

Tuesday is the day of Mars. This is more easily revealed in the Spanish name of this day of the week: Martes. It is a day of energy and accomplishment. Mars rules action, aggression, war, sexuality, and strength. Although it is possible that this day of the week can cause strife and arguments, it is more likely to be the day that lifts us up and out of the floating feeling of Monday and propels us energetically into the week with enthusiasm. Tuesday is the day to get things done! Magick for success in battles, strength, victory, sexual stamina, and all male related issues are favored. thanks for leaving this comment on the blog. It was so great, I wanted to make an entire post of it instead of just giving a quick answer in the comment section. Your suggestion of having a web moment of magick is terrific! I have also been gearing up to present some spells for web masters and bloggers as well. I'll check out the stars and get back to everyone about coordinating a magickal moment in real time online. So far, the closest I've come to this is with the casting of the magick full moon circles. The next full moon circle I will cast on the blog will be May 16. It's a full moon in Taurus, so if any of you need help with financial or emotional security - please check back and enter the circle to make your wish (by leaving a comment on the full moon blog post)! All these wishes will be blessed and charged by the Priestess (moi) and sent out with my own magickal prayers for each and every one of you.

Now I'd like to address your question about the days and times of the week. The most magickal times of the day are sunrise and moonrise closely followed by sunset and midnight (more fondly known as the witching hour). These times are considered vortexes of power and any magick done at these hours will be more effective. You will need to check online for your local area to find out when they occur in your timezone.

All the days of the week are magickal. Not one more than another although certainly each of us may have our favorite day and each day is sacred for a different reason as well. And that brings me to today which is MAGICKAL MONDAY! Some of you may have noticed that I am no longer participating in Mo's Manic Monday. Although I think Morgen and his blog are amazing, I just can't bring myself to go with the manic vibe on Mondays. I'm having the same problem with Wordless Wednesdays. Wednesday is ruled by Mercury, the god of communication and his day should be anything but wordless. I'll still be throwing in my 13 for Thursday and I'll look around for some other memes that fit my magickal sensibility as I love participating with the group. Ah, Ok. Back to MONDAY. Ruled by the moon. Yes, of course it can be a day of lunacy and Mo is right on track with his mania but it is also a day to focus on either waxing or waning elements of our lives. Today the moon is waxing or going towards full so we can do spells, magick, say prayers, or take actions to make something we love WAX FULLER into our lives. When the moon is WANING (this occurs one day after the full moon and continues until the new moon) we can take actions or work magick to wane or GET RID OF a negative element in our world. Since Monday is ruled by the moon, this waxing and waning system works best on this day of the week no matter what kind of issue we are dealing with. Traditionally Mondays are best for working with family, household, children, emotions, romance, psychic ability, finances, and getting rid of fear. Retrograde Reports

Well I preformed the spell and it turns out I would have gotten the job but then head office made them transfer in someone from another store who was threatening to quit unless he was moved to another store closer to his home. Then a week later my best friend who already works there got a promotion to assistant manager so now she has a say in hiring. I'm not losing hope just yet. So it may still happen cause as I have learned with spells you never know when or how they are going to work sometimes. Thanks for the spell.

The Planet Mercury went retrograde on Feb 13th and will continue its backwards motion until March 7th. When Mercury goes retrograde, there are communication problems. How many of you out there broke up with your boyfriend or girlfriend just before, on, or after Valentine's day? How many lost a check in the mail or had travel complications? How many thought something was going to happen right away and then some missing piece of information popped up and caused a delay? Computer glitches, anyone? These events are all typical of a Mercury retrograde. Hang tight because it's almost over.

Also be aware that Jupiter will go retrograde on April 6th. This will occur for a longer time period (until Aug 14th). However Jupiter does not create as much havoc as Mercury. His backward motion will however make your long term goals seem farther out of reach. Advisory note: between March 8 and and April 6th, we'll all want to push hard to further our goals and dreams along. This is an incredible green light time with no holds barred. Shall I remind you again when it is closer to hand? Ok, then. Someone please make a note to remind me to do that and I will elaborate and provide a spell as well. Blessed Be.

Magical (Manic) Monday #4 Celebrate!

This week begins with many festive events. It is a new moon and the Chinese New Year of the prosperous pig. Tomorrow is the culmination of Mardi Gras, a festival celebrated around the world that finds its roots in the ancient pagan Roman holiday of Lupercalia (and also influenced by Saturnalia). Along with celebrating the great God Pan and his Satyrs, Bacchus and Venus, today we are also celebrating the morgEpalooza or 40th birthday of fellow blogger Morgen of It's a Blog Eat Blog World. Mo actually started this Manic Monday meme and if you would like to participate, visit his blog every Sunday to find the word of the week. That's right, this week it is celebrate! somehow I am not surprised at this news. Your partner, J has her moon conjunct Neptune right smack on her ascendant. What does this mean? Aside from being in a constant fog, it also indicates that she is extremely intuitive and she picked up on your plans to leave and beat you to the punch. Also remember that she is Taurus with Scorpio rising. She freaks without emotional/financial security and when that's threatened, her stingers come out. You are also Scorpio rising but she is 2 degrees earlier in the sign which makes her quicker on the draw.

Consulting the Oracle

For those of you who remember the Dilemma post, KW needs to decide whether to stay with her lesbian lover (LL) or get back with her ex husband (EH) (who is now remarried with kids.) The Witch Dr will attempt to help KW gain insight into this situation through the use of astrology and the tarot. KW will also be making comments on these posts so we can get some feedback on the reading. KW has asked 3 questions:

1. With whom would I be able to have the most satisfying relationship?

2. Will he ever leave his wife?

3. Both he and I are attracted to each other; is this a phase? Guilt for the way we treated each other in the past; in other words, is it 'real'?

Witch Dr will begin with Question #3. Is this a phase? Is it real?

KW is a Libra with Scorpio Rising. Her ex husband is Aquarius with Pisces Rising. KW's sun rests in his 7th house which is a perfect placement for marriage. There is no doubt that these two were (and still are) compatible. At the same time, EH has a natal Saturn placement in his 7th house which means he will get divorced (most likely from a Libra) and we know that this has already happened. This placement creates long lasting bonds with Librans but also constant power struggles. If this was a cause of the initial break up, it is likely to occur again. However, since he is older and wiser now, the Saturn may very well act in their benefit and the power struggles may soften with age.

I would not question that the natural attraction between KW & EH is real and continues to live and breathe. However, EH has the transiting Neptune conjunct his Natal Sun in the 12th House and right on the cusp of the Ascendant. This would indicate that EH does not see things clearly at this time. In fact, he may even be slightly delusional. The same transiting Neptune is conjunct KW's natal Moon and this configuration is a very dangerous one. It can cause relapses of drug or alcohol addiction so she must be extremely careful and make sure to get all the support she needs. It also creates that classic "bewitched" feeling that I fondly like to refer to as the "psychotic state of falling in love". Those under the influence of this transit often fall in love with totally unavailable or inappropriate partners. This coupled with all the Scorpio in KW's chart will most likely result in great disappointment once the desire is fulfilled. Because it is probably more likely that she is in love with longing than in love with EH.

My analysis would be that this is not REAL as far as whatever romantic and intensely passionate feelings have arisen between the two of them however, there is a strong foundation in the chart for a deeper more reality based kind of love. "What in the hell does that mean, Lexa" , is what you now may be asking. Well, it means simply that sometimes it is better to marry when you are not "in love". The charts suggest that these two would need to see how things fall out in the daily life through real contact (not just emails) and not just sex (which will probably work out just fine.) When consulting the Tarot on this question, I am told that it is not real but rather something from the past that refuses to let go because the issue wants to be healed and resolved so that she can move on. The tarot also says that EH is interested and willing to have an extra marital affair...

A SOLSTICE SPREAD
by Lady Venus

At the Solstice we greet the new born Sun King; the wheel turns and the days begin to wax full. The sun is the central life force of our solar system. This tarot spread combines the sun and planetary energies with the 78 sacred symbols of the Tarot.

Shuffle and cut the cards as usual. Place four cards in a vertical line, beginning at the bottom of the line. Place the fifth card across the fourth card. Then add six cards above the fourth card. You should have ten cards in a vertical line and one card crossing over the card in the fourth position.

• The first or bottom card represents the Sun. Its' meaning will connect to and shed light on all the other cards. It represents the self or what is central to you at this time.

• The second card is the Mercury position, the planet closest to the Sun. This card reveals your creative and communication skills, as well as what others are saying about you.

• The third card is Venus and shows the love energy around you. (what you are giving out as well as receiving.)

• The fourth card is the Earth position and represents your health, wealth, and material well being.

• The fifth card (card crossing the Earth) is the Moon and symbolizes the emotional life and feelings connected to the Earth card. The moon position can also reveal psychic awareness.

• The sixth position is Mars. This card reveals your ambition and/or sexual energy. If the card is negative it may mean you have sexual blocks (the Devil),trouble releasing your anger (eight of swords), or perhaps you are too combative (five of wands).

• The eleventh and final card is Pluto and unveils the darker issues in your life. It shows your spiritual power as well as the demons you must face and conquer. If the card is positive it means you are on the regenerative side of a disturbing issue in your life. If the card is negative it may mean you are spiraling downward and letting your inner demons have the upper hand.

This spread can be used to ask a question or to examine an issue, but I recommend it more as a general checkup to look at your planetary aura. If you want the reading to be of the highest spiritual or meditative order, use only the 22 Major Trump cards. If you are asking a question of a more earthly nature, use all 78 cards. Look for similar suits and which positions they fall in as that will indicate a relationship between those planets. Here are some examples:

• Ace of Wands in the Mars position, Seven of Wands in the Mercury position, and Ten of Wands in the Saturn position indicate a relationship between these three planets. Perhaps your Mercury energy is moving in many different directions or people are offering you many different opportunities. Mars is saying to single out a particular goal and move on it. Saturn tells you the lesson is to be responsible and carry that goal out to its conclusion.
  
• Two of pentacles in the Earth position, Three of Pentacles in the Moon position and Four of Pentacles in the Jupiter position. You are debating whether or not you should make a change. You feel good about your work, yet the Jupiter card is telling you to wait before making any kind of expansion, especially if it's financial.
  
• Seven of cups in the Venus position and Three of Cups in the Neptune position. Looking at the seven alone, you might conclude that there is disillusionment in love. However the three and seven together mean that wishes will come true and inner needs and desires will be fulfilled. On 10/25/75 I married a man with whom I was very much in love with. I left him in June, '78 as I was a full-blown alcoholic and wanted more out of life than what I was getting.

Bewildered!

Dear Lady Venus -

I'm totally confused and now in a real funk over a situation. My boyfriend (Taurus) and I (Scorpio) are truly in love. Everything seemed to be going fine until the weekend before Halloween when all hell broke loose. It seems like we lost the connection and now all attempts to communicate since then have failed. It sounds like you and your beau definitely got "tricked" but I would venture to guess that the source of your difficulties did not stem from Halloween but rather from the dreaded MERCURY RETROGRADE which began on Sunday the 29th of October. I'm sure both of you are experiencing a more intensified version than the rest of the signs as Mercury is in Scorpio. That means the planet is conjunct your sun (think SIDESWIPED) and it is in opposition to your boyfriend's sun (think HEAD ON COLLISION)! Mercury retrograde is infamous for causing communication problems and also for dragging ex lovers out of the woodwork. Best thing to do is JUST SIT TIGHT. The planet will begin its forward motion on the 18th of November and you should be able to sort it all out then. If you need a little something to take the edge off, I suggest burning white and pink candles alternatively. These colors are for stress reduction and love healing. Rub some lavender oil on the candles or sprinkle a circle of dried lavender flowers around the candles. This will help to calm you both down and open the lines for constructive communication. As for the exes haunting you, let them know that Halloween is OVER and it's time to GO BACK FROM WHENCE THEY CAME! If that doesn't work, use ye old trusty freezer spell.

Starving Artist?

Dear Lexa ( a.k.a. The Witch Doctor),

Hi! I own many of your books- love them & I respect your wisdom & insight which is why I'm writing to you. I need help with my art career. I have a kick ass website & have put myself on as many art websites as I can. I do sell some of my work on eBAY but mostly for a mere pittance. Recently, I got into a group show at a real (read: physical) art gallery which I am grateful for but Saturn transitting Leo in my 10th house seems to be thwarting all my efforts (i'll try & keep these examples brief.

I got to paint two rocking chairs for a charity auction for a local hospital. I signed a contract with them (money went to the neo natal unit (which was a good cause)but they promised to exhibit the chairs (me and 20 other artists)- then they didn't. I put about 30 hours of labor into each chair. Then I went to a taping of the ISAAC show in NYC and as soon as we were seated, we were told by the crew "we won't be filming the audience and doing Q & A from the audience like last season. I was bummed - I had emailed them the question as they asked beforehand & brought the garment to show Isaac Mizrahi. My birthdate is May 11, 1964 6:06 p.m. Chicago, Il. I have 0 degrees Scorpio rising) Can you either suggest a good spell to deal with Saturn or suggest a good spell to do with my art. I want positive fame (a la Julia Child). I also feel my artwork is special because it is colorful, happy & heals people & is ORIGINAL.

The last time Saturn was in Leo I was in Junior High (my Hellish years), and I had issues with being in the school orchestra & band. The effects of Saturn can be devastating especially during the Saturn Return which happens in the 28th-29th year of age. I'm not sure of your specific issue with Saturn in Leo, but my guess is, that being a Taurus with Scorpio rising, your hair stands up on end and you feel way too crowded when Tough Guy Saturn shows up arm in arm with Leo, another FIXED sign. This is bound to cause power struggles and issues for you. A deeper analysis of your chart would be sure to reveal more, and I am available for indepth private astrological and psychic tarot consultations.

I don't know if you are aware of it, but SATURN transiting the TENTH HOUSE (whether in Leo or any other sign) represents a period in one's life when given the opportunity to reach a professional peak. It is the time to step up to the plate and be the most you can be. This cycle only happens once in every twelve years so you will want to take advantage of it. PATIENCE and PERSISTANCE are the key elements needed to glean all possible success from this transit. You'll also want to think more like a CAPRICORN as that is the ruler of the 10th H. They use pushiness, power, and influence. (think insider trading.) I would ask you to consider making Saturn your friend and ally right now. To embrace and then harness it's energy as a driving force to give you a leading edge in your field. You will also want to invest in some watermelon tourmaline. Whereas if one includes worship of Saraswati, one receives both wisdom and wealth, and a refined sense of enrichment. Case in point is the tale of the two brothers - the first prayed only to Lakshmi for weath and was led to a mine rich with carbon although he had no knowledge of how to pipe into it. The second brother prayed to Saraswati as well and he gained discovery to the same mine. He was also given knowledge of not only how to extract the carbon but how to polish and cut it to reveal the many facets of what then became a PRICELESS gem. So my friend, is it possible that as an artist you are still somehow a "diamond in the rough"? Include some prayers to Saraswati in your daily life or create an altar for her and see if things don't change.

Finally, I have viewed your art and it is colorful and wonderful. It is possible that you are one of those purely creative folk who doesn't really fare well at the business end of your field. I don't think you are alone in this - and that's why the Goddess created managers and agents!
