it sounds like you are aspiring ghostbusters - so the first thing you need to know is to be polite and respectful when dealing with ghosts and spirits. Most likely they are souls in distress and going through a hard enough time as it is. If there is a ghost in your school, you will want to burn a white candle and encourage the ghost to go to the light. Tell this spirit not to be afraid but to move toward the light. If this does not work, you will want to try to contact the spirit to see why he/she is not able/willing to move on. In this case, be sure to protect yourselves before conducting a seance. You can do this by anointing with holy water and/or consecrating the room and yourselves with the four sacred elements. Earth, air, fire, and water. Use salt to represent the earth element, incense for the air, a white candle for fire, and holy water or spring water. Since you are only 11, you should also ask for an adult to supervise your occult activities just incase you run into more than you can handle.

Spells for friendship are similar to spells for love. It is best to petition Venus. You can offer her pink roses on an altar and/or burn pink candles anointed with rose oil. Attraction powder is another good formula to work with. You can dust your hands with the talc or you can make in a perfume form and wear to attract friendship into your life. You may also use the herbal formula and add to the bath water. Soak for minimum of 10 minutes while visualizing wonderful friends coming into your life. The ingredients are: Patchouli leaves or oil, Lemon Verbena leaves or oil, Cinnamon oil or powder, Vetavert root or oil.

Hi Lexa,
I used the 'Win Your Ex Back' spell from The Supermarket Sorceress's Sexy Hexes on my ex, recently, and I've been really happy with the progress so far. But I was kinda worried about what I should do with the spell ingredients if he comes back? Cause I remember reading that if you take it apart or throw it away, that the magic might backfire.
Also there's been a lot of ants in my house lately, so what do I do if any ants get into it, or my little brother messes with it? Is there anyway to protect it from things like that without making it backfire?

Sorry about sending you another email... But I used the Win Your Ex Back spell, and it seems to be working a little too good... I'm scared it's hurting him, and I never really wanted to hurt him... Is there anyway that I can reverse the spell without making him hate me, or getting him out of my life completely? Or maybe at least tone down the spell and protect him? I'm worried too. Why would this spell be hurting him? Are you working the Win Back your Ex or the Hex your Ex Spell?! At any rate, if you want to undo either spell without harm, soak all the ingredients in salt water for 3 days and then dispose of. If you are working the Win Back your Ex, dispose of the ingredients once the spell has worked. (ie: he has come back to you.)As far as the ants, if you want to continue working the spell, place the ingredients in a ziplock bag to protect them and keep the ants away. I am in trouble. I am pregnant, and I love being pregnant and I love my new little baby, who kicks and talks to me in my dreams. This child also kicks for my cats, who snuggle up against my belly and purr to it. I am desperate to be a good mother. I love this child so much already.

The child’s father, my erstwhile boyfriend and self described fiancee, has turned into a dangerous, frightening force in my life. (We are living far apart from one another, so actual immediate danger is unlikely.) He has called me a c--t. He has called me a b---h. He has threatened to serve me with papers to start our custody battle while I am in labour with our child. He is angry, because I do not want to be around him when he is drinking and I do not like his alcoholic friends or family members. He also told me that if I loved him, I was going to have to “choose between him and the truth.” I don’t want to be sworn at, belittled, threatened, abandoned, and hated. He is scared, but why is it manifesting this way? I feel like a stupid, stupid fool. I miss the man I loved. Once upon a time, we each wished for the other. I miss how loved he used to make me feel, and I miss my happy loving thoughts of him. I swing back and forth, thinking about how to love him and get him to treat me with love one minute, and how to get him out of my life the next. Sometimes I am so sad that he is missing all the fun, and missing me at the most beautiful and lovely I have ever been; I am all soft and watery, and yearn for him. Other times, I feel parched and hot and angry, and were it not for this child in my womb, I would feel like a wasteland, barren and bleak, and I wish one or both of us was dead. (I’m pulled back from those thoughts by our baby, who needs and loves us both. What can I do?)

I don’t think I can control his actions or thoughts. I would like to have some guidance about how to stay focused on what I need to do. I’m scattered, depressed, ashamed, and frightened. I feel alone. I need to make money (I REALLY need to make money) and be financially ready for this baby, and possibly for a court fight. I need to have work that fits with pregnancy and new motherhood, and some of mine does not. I need to build support networks and nurture the community I have. I need to confess and confide in people I love that I’ve messed up with this relationship, even if that is embarrassing. I need to figure out what my truest instincts about this man ARE, never mind learning to follow them. I need to be able to live with the grief and loss I feel, and to do the work I’m supposed to do in this life, whatever that is. I need to confront and deal with my own mistakes and patterns and the things that will hamper my ability to mother well. I need to keep myself and my baby safe and healthy.

How do I get him out of my head and find the discipline and grace to accomplish what I need to accomplish to prepare for the birth of this little one? Are their spells for women who love their babies, but who are caught like a deer in headlights, afraid of their own lives and afraid of their man? This post is too long, but I cannot be the only woman in this situation. What can we do?

Often people feel overwhelmed because there are so many problems that need to be solved. Magick, like anything else, is best worked one step at a time. Let's begin with the most important of issues - You and the child in your womb. Believe it or not, you are in a position of great power although I understand that right now you feel helpless and hopeless. In the Wicca, and ancient Matriarchal paths, it is the Mother Goddess who rules the earth and you must turn to Her for Her power, protection, and prosperity. Freeze the Enemy Within

Dear Lexa,

Hi. My name is Amy, I have a question concerning a Freezer Spell. I respect your wisdom, I have a copy of the Supermarket Sorceress and it has helped me many times, to balance and achieve some peace in my life. What I wanted to know is if its possible to do a freezer spell on myself? This may sound odd, but if it can work on those that wish to make you miserable or on an enemy I thought I would apply this logic to me because sometimes I stand in the way of my own happiness- if that makes any sense. I don't physically hurt myself but I want to rid myself of alot of negativity and pain that I have carried for so long, I have talked about this in therapy and tried to rid myself of feeling bad but its still nagging me a little and I would really like to be free of it once and for all. Do you think this is possible, and if so can things be added to the water, such as honey or sugar to maybe help my attitude or an herb for clarity? I really appreciate your time and consideration on this and any advice you could share I would be grateful for. Sincerely-Amy

believe it or not, you are not the first to ask this question of me. Yes, I suppose it is possible to use the freezer spell to "freeze" or put on hold negative traits within yourself. The problem lies in the fact that using this spell (instead of a good banishing spell) will only put these issues at bay and not truly banish or heal them.
Since you have the Supermarket Sorceress book, please check out the Spell to Break a Bad Habit, Obstacle Remover, and Spell to Banish Negativity as they are more suited to your situation.

I get by with a little help from my friends...

Hello Lexa, and Blessed be.

I am a witch of about 9 years now and have had many successes with magick. But there is something that is bothering me.

On the normal scale I can cast love spells and employment spells for others and they turn out fine. For example, when I cast a love spell for myself the love spells work the total opposite of what I strongly visualize (Meaning that this happens despite the fact that I focus on no one in particular, cast on Friday during a waxing moon, Venus planetary hour, pink / green / red candle depending on the type of love sought, the belief that I deserve love, and the emotions / desires / visualizations are all strong).

Now when I cast an employment spell for myself, I follow the same protocol (Utilizing the proper day of week, moon phase, planetary hour and tools of choice, imparting the desire, visualization etc) and instead, my employment spells don't manifest for me at all. They only seem to manifest when they are cast for others. I would like your opinion...why can't I cast an effective love or employment spell for myself as I can for others?

Now Tanya poses an interesting question. I remember just such a problem in the old Enchantments days. We were a close knit coven all working in the shop and carving one successful candle and weaving one powerful spell after another for lots of OTHER people. But when we did magickal work for ourselves, it just wasn't quite as effective. That's when we got the idea to do magick for each other. Ha, worked like a charm. So Tanya, I hope you're not a solitary because I think what you need is a witch buddy to work a spell for you. That's just how it is sometimes. We may become too attached to the results when we work our own spells and actually block them from manifesting. Best of luck, magick, and success.

I have read spells where they say to bury something in front of someones house in in their front yard which is not all that practical considering stalking laws and such.

I did notice that the neighborhood of the home of my particular target is having work done by the local government where they are laying some pipe, wires or something. The closest holes that are dug are conveniently deep and will buried over by heavy duty bobcats but the closest hole is a few houses away but while they are digging, I could easily drive by and toss something into the hole in ground and it would be buried and cemented over-pretty permenant. I could also throw something into several of the holes surrounding the home; Would this work still or would it be geographically specific to the exact home it is buried directly in front of?

This all depends what type of spell it is. For example, there are love spells that require a person to step over something in order to fall in love. In this case, anyone might step over the buried object. Another common type of spell where the burying method is employed is to banish someone. In this case, you may end up evacuating residents from the house nextdoor, up the block, etc.. I would not guarantee that your spell would be effective if you are only putting something in the general area of your "target". Also, in choosing the word, "target" I wonder what this is really about. Be careful of trying to harm someone as you may end up harming yourself. You might also want to look for another spell to accomplish your desire that is not as intrusive.

I have read your book The Supermarket Sorceress. I originally found it in the local library, and every time I went to return it I would just renew it. It was very good, and it inspired me very much. I am just a teenager, but I feel deeply spiritual. I am sure you get emails asking for advice constantly, and I apologize if this becomes just one more, however, I feel the need to ask some questions.
My parents are both Buddhists, my mother was raised Catholic and my father was raised Jewish, and they got married in a Unitarian Universalist church. I was raised in a Unitarian Universalist church no matter where we lived. Haha, it's all very confusing. But I grew up in the pueblos in New Mexico and absorbed the culture there since I was young. I have believed in spirits, spirit animals, divination, herbs, and spell-casting, since I was about 4, more so once I understood it all more completely. But recently I've moved to the near opposite side of the world, where they have a different culture. They have similar beliefs and some core concepts and I see them, but is ultimately different. I have been unable to accept this particular culture and miss New Mexico and the Native American culture very much.
I love reading and have bought several books involving New Age and Occult and various other religions that appealed to me. Yet none of them seemed to quite fit right. It seems as though every religion I've studied under has had some aspect that I just can't dedicate myself to, or is missing something that I find essential. I often feel that I need some higher being to look to, and I do believe that there is something out there, or someone, or more than one. I know that I am not Monotheist, I believe that there is more than one person/thing out there running things, so I've never been interested in Christianity or and division of it. [Also being told repeatedly that I am the Devil's Child and that I am going to hell has put a damper on Christianity and it's followers. This is also why I don't let certain Christian friends of mine know I practice certain aspects of Pagan Wicca or Druid beliefs or practices.]
Basically I want to find a religion or practice that I know I can be happy with and that will help me through the things I'm going through. I know a few questions I have in mind, but I'm not entirely sure what made me want to write you. I've just been searching for guidance spiritually, and so far, found none. My parent’s beliefs are too different for them to understand. [They find most of my beliefs "bull-s***", “hooey”, and "stupid". I no longer tell them of my practices or beliefs if I can avoid it. They don’t believe I will go to hell or anything, as far as I know, but they dislike it anyways. My father wouldn’t even allow me to have a picture with fire as my desktop. I could tell what he was thinking as he told me to change it. I only got 2 words clearly though “spell” and “hell”. I said I would change it, I just got back on the computer, and he has changed it FOR me. I apparently couldn’t be trusted to do it myself.]
I am NOT just a teenager rebelling. I really believe what I believe, while my parents say it’s just a stage and to get over it. But I know I won’t and never will. I'm sorry this letter is so long, and I'll get to the point now. These are some of my questions. Some I have answers for and I just would like to know your opinion, because I've read your book and hold your opinion in high regard.

1. What religion would you recommend I study, or continue to look in on? [Based on what I’ve told you and what you know, it might be asking a lot, but I don’t know what path to take.]

Wow, this is a very powerful question and difficult to answer as only you can chose your path. What I can say is this, you seem to know what you connect to (the Native American Path) and that is great. Trust your instinct. It is also easy to see the connective tissue and spiritual principles between the Shamanic Religion and that of Wicca and that is probably why you gravitate towards it. What is not as easy to see, (although it exists) are the connecting principles between Wicca, Judaism, Christianity, and Buddhism. It is my belief that the religions - all of them - are merely the wrappings or packaging that hold the true spiritual teachings. Unfortunately through time, we have "saved the box" and thrown away or lost the contents that originally dwelled inside of them. This is probably why you find something essential lacking in all the religions you have studied! (It's like - Ha, nice gift wrapping but WHERE'S MY PRESENT?!) The more you study, especially the esoteric or mystical teachings of each religion, the more similarities you will find and the more gifts revealed. Each in their own way are attempting to help humanity find the LIGHT. Keep this in mind and you will have an easier time with it. Who knows, you may even create a NEW Religion that suits this post modern age. Or you may find that you do not need a religion at all but only the spiritual principles that breathe in the spaces between them. I encourage you to continue your studies and your questioning and to ALWAYS ALWAYS seek the LIGHT.

2. Are there any good spells to help with Depression? [I have clinical Depression and Somatic Disorder and was wondering if there was anything I could do. I don’t really want to be on meds…unless it’s my last hope and helps.]

A simple spell to cure depression is to eat cherries or cherry jam. Cherries are cheerful and really do help to put us in a better mood. However, they are not a substitute for meds and although I don't believe in them either, if you need them and they help to stabilize you, perhaps it is the best choice at least to get you balanced out chemically and emotionally.

3. How can I test if I have spiritual or psychic abilities? [I believe I can sense spirits, auras, and other people’s thoughts. I also have been proven to have been able to foresee things, dreams, premonitions, just sitting and getting a vision, etc. If I’ve had extensive conversations with people on the phone before, I can tell just when they’re about to call, and who is calling.]

It sounds like you have already tested this and it works. Think about training your gift so that it can be useful to you and others. There are many great books out there for training the third eye and psychic senses.

4. I often feel as if there is a large well of energy or power or emotion, or SOMETHING, stowed away inside myself, a calm static. That blocks out anything else that causes me harm. It eventually makes it disappear. It’s hard to explain. It’s as if, once I retreat into the static it takes hold, and protects me from whatever is hurting, and slowly what’s hurting me goes away. [Example: a friend hurt me once, badly, insulted me and my beliefs, in MY house. Calling me horrid names, and resulting in, something I avoid, tears. She leaves and I retreat into my static. Later, she get’s into unexplained conflicts with other friends, who I had nothing to do with, and is left sad and alone. Eventually she left me alone and did not bother me anymore. Once she left my life her bad luck and run with fellows ceased, and she returned to being cute and perfect. Gag. I don’t know what any of this is. It feels like an involuntary thing. I NEVER wished harm upon her, just for her to leave me alone, and understand how I felt. Suddenly, within days, she did. Stuff like this happens a lot. I seem to empathize and understand peoples hidden emotions easily, also making them understand MY hidden emotions and thoughts without saying or acting anything.]

Well, here I would have to tell you that as powerful as this seems, I do not endorse this kind of silent energy. One of the most magickal things we have are our feelings and our words. I might also include our tears. As powerful as it may feel to read minds or project thoughts and feelings, I think it's best to SAY WHAT'S ON OUR MIND!!! You could have allowed yourself to cry and let her know how you felt and that she hurt your feelings. Perhaps you could have even become closer friends after talking it through. Or you could have decided to cut her loose. The point is, I discourage this kind of use of the spiritual energy because it can actually drain us and lead us away from our true paths. I think we can trust the karmic cycle to teach all of us lessons. IE: What comes around goes around. I do however like the fact that you seem to have an inate understanding of psychic self defense. That's cool!

Any and all advice you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your valuable time to read my, not-so-valuable letter. :)

Bad News Bears

Well it seems like the Chicago Cubs are going to need some more spell work. Still, since the curse was removed, this is the first time they even made it to the World Series playoffs since 1945. We'll keep working on it!!! And hope that next year, they'll take the magick and really step up to the plate!

Lily Belle Comes Home!

Here's an update on the missing kitty Lily Belle:

Thank you for all your prayers and efforts for Lily Belle! Lily Belle came home late Friday night/early Sat morning. No obvious bleeding or gashes but it is painfully obvious that some great trauma occurred. She is not herself at all. Normally the friendliest of all our cats, she is avoiding everyone and hiding in the woods. She is totally skitzed out, with wild starting eyes and is not responding to verbal communication. I am beyond worried. Thank you so much for your concern and help! A few more prayers would be truly appreciated.

Bring Back Lily Belle

Hello,

I recently read your article regarding lost cats on your web site. I run a private cat sanctuary for feral cats in honor of my daughter and only child, who died unexpectedly 6 years ago.

One of my rescues, Lily Belle, is a small spayed tortoiseshell cat. She is domesticated and a real "pistol", super-friendly. EVERYONE loves Lily Belle! She is our official greeter and giver of nose kisses.

Lily Belle has always stayed close to the house. We live in a remote area (for South-central PA) and my nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. Unfortunately, we also have coyote and other predators nearby so I really freak out when I can't find one of the cats.

I am trying the "cording" technique as you described, and if you could add Lily Belle to your magikal prayers, I would be truly grateful.
