Lost Soul

Dear Lexa,

I have read your book The Supermarket Sorceress. I originally found it in the local library, and every time I went to return it I would just renew it. It was very good, and it inspired me very much. I am just a teenager, but I feel deeply spiritual. I am sure you get emails asking for advice constantly, and I apologize if this becomes just one more, however, I feel the need to ask some questions.
My parents are both Buddhists, my mother was raised Catholic and my father was raised Jewish, and they got married in a Unitarian Universalist church. I was raised in a Unitarian Universalist church no matter where we lived. Haha, it's all very confusing. But I grew up in the pueblos in New Mexico and absorbed the culture there since I was young. I have believed in spirits, spirit animals, divination, herbs, and spell-casting, since I was about 4, more so once I understood it all more completely. But recently I've moved to the near opposite side of the world, where they have a different culture. They have similar beliefs and some core concepts and I see them, but is ultimately different. I have been unable to accept this particular culture and miss New Mexico and the Native American culture very much.
I love reading and have bought several books involving New Age and Occult and various other religions that appealed to me. Yet none of them seemed to quite fit right. It seems as though every religion I've studied under has had some aspect that I just can't dedicate myself to, or is missing something that I find essential. I often feel that I need some higher being to look to, and I do believe that there is something out there, or someone, or more than one. I know that I am not Monotheist, I believe that there is more than one person/thing out there running things, so I've never been interested in Christianity or and division of it. [Also being told repeatedly that I am the Devil's Child and that I am going to hell has put a damper on Christianity and it's followers. This is also why I don't let certain Christian friends of mine know I practice certain aspects of Pagan Wicca or Druid beliefs or practices.]
Basically I want to find a religion or practice that I know I can be happy with and that will help me through the things I'm going through. I know a few questions I have in mind, but I'm not entirely sure what made me want to write you. I've just been searching for guidance spiritually, and so far, found none. My parent’s beliefs are too different for them to understand. [They find most of my beliefs "bull-s***", “hooey”, and "stupid". I no longer tell them of my practices or beliefs if I can avoid it. They don’t believe I will go to hell or anything, as far as I know, but they dislike it anyways. My father wouldn’t even allow me to have a picture with fire as my desktop. I could tell what he was thinking as he told me to change it. I only got 2 words clearly though “spell” and “hell”. I said I would change it, I just got back on the computer, and he has changed it FOR me. I apparently couldn’t be trusted to do it myself.]
I am NOT just a teenager rebelling. I really believe what I believe, while my parents say it’s just a stage and to get over it. But I know I won’t and never will. I'm sorry this letter is so long, and I'll get to the point now. These are some of my questions. Some I have answers for and I just would like to know your opinion, because I've read your book and hold your opinion in high regard.

1. What religion would you recommend I study, or continue to look in on? [Based on what I’ve told you and what you know, it might be asking a lot, but I don’t know what path to take.]

Wow, this is a very powerful question and difficult to answer as only you can chose your path. What I can say is this, you seem to know what you connect to (the Native American Path) and that is great. Trust your instinct. It is also easy to see the connective tissue and spiritual principles between the Shamanic Religion and that of Wicca and that is probably why you gravitate towards it. What is not as easy to see, (although it exists) are the connecting principles between Wicca, Judaism, Christianity, and Buddhism. It is my belief that the religions - all of them - are merely the wrappings or packaging that hold the true spiritual teachings. Unfortunately through time, we have "saved the box" and thrown away or lost the contents that originally dwelled inside of them. This is probably why you find something essential lacking in all the religions you have studied! (It's like - Ha, nice gift wrapping but WHERE'S MY PRESENT?!) The more you study, especially the esoteric or mystical teachings of each religion, the more similarities you will find and the more gifts revealed. Each in their own way are attempting to help humanity find the LIGHT. Keep this in mind and you will have an easier time with it. Who knows, you may even create a NEW Religion that suits this post modern age. Or you may find that you do not need a religion at all but only the spiritual principles that breathe in the spaces between them. I encourage you to continue your studies and your questioning and to ALWAYS ALWAYS seek the LIGHT.

2. Are there any good spells to help with Depression? [I have clinical Depression and Somatic Disorder and was wondering if there was anything I could do. I don’t really want to be on meds…unless it’s my last hope and helps.]

A simple spell to cure depression is to eat cherries or cherry jam. Cherries are cheerful and really do help to put us in a better mood. However, they are not a substitute for meds and although I don't believe in them either, if you need them and they help to stabilize you, perhaps it is the best choice at least to get you balanced out chemically and emotionally.

3. How can I test if I have spiritual or psychic abilities? [I believe I can sense spirits, auras, and other people’s thoughts. I also have been proven to have been able to foresee things, dreams, premonitions, just sitting and getting a vision, etc. If I’ve had extensive conversations with people on the phone before, I can tell just when they’re about to call, and who is calling.]

It sounds like you have already tested this and it works. Think about training your gift so that it can be useful to you and others. There are many great books out there for training the third eye and psychic senses.

4. I often feel as if there is a large well of energy or power or emotion, or SOMETHING, stowed away inside myself, a calm static. That blocks out anything else that causes me harm. It eventually makes it disappear. It’s hard to explain. It’s as if, once I retreat into the static it takes hold, and protects me from whatever is hurting, and slowly what’s hurting me goes away. [Example: a friend hurt me once, badly, insulted me and my beliefs, in MY house. Calling me horrid names, and resulting in, something I avoid, tears. She leaves and I retreat into my static. Later, she get’s into unexplained conflicts with other friends, who I had nothing to do with, and is left sad and alone. Eventually she left me alone and did not bother me anymore. Once she left my life her bad luck and run with fellows ceased, and she returned to being cute and perfect. Gag. I don’t know what any of this is. It feels like an involuntary thing. I NEVER wished harm upon her, just for her to leave me alone, and understand how I felt. Suddenly, within days, she did. Stuff like this happens a lot. I seem to empathize and understand peoples hidden emotions easily, also making them understand MY hidden emotions and thoughts without saying or acting anything.]

Well, here I would have to tell you that as powerful as this seems, I do not endorse this kind of silent energy. One of the most magickal things we have are our feelings and our words. I might also include our tears. As powerful as it may feel to read minds or project thoughts and feelings, I think it's best to SAY WHAT'S ON OUR MIND!!! You could have allowed yourself to cry and let her know how you felt and that she hurt your feelings. Perhaps you could have even become closer friends after talking it through. Or you could have decided to cut her loose. The point is, I discourage this kind of use of the spiritual energy because it can actually drain us and lead us away from our true paths. I think we can trust the karmic cycle to teach all of us lessons. IE: What comes around goes around. I do however like the fact that you seem to have an inate understanding of psychic self defense. That's cool!

Any and all advice you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your valuable time to read my, not-so-valuable letter. :)

Thank you again, I really do appreciate it.

Signed, Alma Perdida

Your letter was quite valuable and I'm sure it will be helpful to others and that is why I have chosen to answer it here. I think you are not as lost (perdida) a soul (alma) as you claim. Perhaps more of a searching one :)
In love and light
Lexa

Bad News Bears

Well it seems like the Chicago Cubs are going to need some more spell work. Still, since the curse was removed, this is the first time they even made it to the World Series playoffs since 1945. We'll keep working on it!!! And hope that next year, they'll take the magick and really step up to the plate!

Lily Belle Comes Home!

Here's an update on the missing kitty Lily Belle:

Thank you for all your prayers and efforts for Lily Belle! Lily Belle came home late Friday night/early Sat morning. No obvious bleeding or gashes but it is painfully obvious that some great trauma occurred. She is not herself at all. Normally the friendliest of all our cats, she is avoiding everyone and hiding in the woods. She is totally skitzed out, with wild starting eyes and is not responding to verbal communication. I am beyond worried. Thank you so much for your concern and help! A few more prayers would be truly appreciated.
Blessed be,
Dee

Great Job Readers, but as you see, she still needs some more spiritual energy to calm down. Thanks for all your help. Dee, I suggest placing some lavender around the house to calm her spirit.
blessed be

Bring Back Lily Belle

Hello,
I recently read your article regarding lost cats on your web site. I run a private cat sanctuary for feral cats in honor of my daughter and only child, who died unexpectedly 6 years ago.
One of my rescues, Lily Belle, is a small spayed tortoiseshell cat. She is domesticated and a real "pistol", super-friendly. EVERYONE loves Lily Belle! She is our official greeter and giver of nose kisses.
Lily Belle has always stayed close to the house. We live in a remote area (for South-central PA) and my nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. Unfortunately, we also have coyote and other predators nearby so I really freak out when I can't find one of the cats.
I am trying the "cording" technique as you described, and if you could add Lily Belle to your magikal prayers, I would be truly grateful.
Blessed Be
Dee

Dear Dee,
my prayers are with you to find Lily Belle and bring her home safe and sound and I'm sure my readers will also send some magickal energy to protect her and return her home soon!
blessed be
Lexa

AFP: Cubs beat Reds to seize NL Central lead

for those of you who remember, Witch Dr removed the Curse of the Billy Goat from the Chicago Cubs on ESPN's Cold Pizza TV segment. The ritual was performed on Halloween and Witch DR predicted a win for the Cubs in 2007. Fingers crossed and mojo tossed, looks like they're doing well and on their way!

Ask Demeter

Hello...My name is Rya and I've started working on a project blessing sacred land that has been over run by corporate greed and corruption. I've found many blessing spells but not something as specific as land blessing. From one wise-woman to another...do you have any advice for me as to how I may go about this in the most efficient way?
Thank You!
Ashanti...
Rya

Greetings Rya
I think the best approach would be to address the Earth Mother directly and ask for her help in blessing the sacred lands. I would suggest working with the Demeter chant and to do it on the sacred lands. If this is not possible, at least you should visualize the land while chanting or have pictures or soil from the property on your altar. The Demeter chant is done by breaking down the syllables of her name and chanting them. A cone of power is built up as the syllables are added until her complete name is sounded. The name is chanted until the energy reaches a peak and then it is released. Arms should be raised into the air as the energy is released. Immediately following the apex of the chant and release, the hands should be placed on the earth to ground and center and return energy to Her. Here is how the syllables are divided while chanting: D De Dem Deme Demet Demete Demeter. But the actual chant sounds more like: Da Dal Dalm Dalma Dalmat and then quickly escalating into DemeterDemeterDemeter.
good luck and blessed be.

Wicca Teacher Claims 1 Mega Ticket

NOTTINGHAM, Md. (AP) — Elwood "Bunky" Bartlett says a New Age book store made it possible for him to become an overnight multimillionaire.

He and his wife, Denise, were on their way to the shop where he occasionally teaches Wicca and Reiki (RAY'kee) healing when they stopped at a liquor store and bought two $5 Mega Millions tickets for Friday night's estimated $330 million jackpot. On Sunday, he said one ticket was a winner.

"If it wasn't for this place I wouldn't have won the lottery," Bartlett said Sunday at Mystickal Voyage, the New Age shop.

Four winning tickets to the Mega Millions jackpot were sold in Maryland, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia. Lottery officials said Sunday they cannot confirm the validity of Bartlett's ticket before they meet with him on Tuesday.

"There's no reason to believe it's not legitimate, but it has to go through security," said Maryland State Lottery Director Buddy Roogow, who said he has spoken with Bartlett.

Bartlett, an accountant from Dundalk, said he made a bargain with the multiple gods associated with his Wiccan beliefs: "You let me win the lottery and I'll teach." Both tickets he purchased had numbers chosen randomly from the computer.

Bartlett had not decided if he will accept his winnings as an annuity or choose the lump sum cash option. The jackpot could get larger once ticket sales are tallied, Roogow said, but the lump sum payment would be at least $48.7 million, or about $32 million after taxes.

According to preliminary calculations, each ticket would be worth about $82 million if the prize were taken in 26 annual payments.

Bartlett said the money won't change him, although he plans to invest in Mystickal Voyage. "I'm going to live my life like I have been," he said.

The odds that any ticket would match all five numbers — 8, 18, 22, 40 and 44 — and the Mega Ball number — 11 — were one in 176 million.

If estimates of the jackpot hold true, it would be the fourth largest in the lottery's history. It was known as The Big Game when it awarded jackpots of $363 million in 2000 and $331 million in 2002.

Mega Millions tickets are also sold in California, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio and Washington.

Associated Press Writer Kasey Jones contributed to this report.

Hubble Heaven

After correcting an initial problem with the lens, when the Hubble Space Telescope was first launched in 1990, the floating astro-observatory began to relay back to Earth, incredible snapshots of the 'final frontier' it was perusing.
Recently, astronauts voted on the top photographs taken by Hubble, in its 16-year journey so far. Remarking in the article from the Daily Mail, reporter Michael Hanlon says the photos 'illustrate that our universe is not only deeply strange, but also almost impossibly beautiful.'
Enjoy!
Hubble telescope's top ten greatest space photographs

The Sombrero Galaxy - 28 million light years from Earth - was voted best picture taken
by the Hubble telescope. The dimensions of the galaxy, officially called M104, are as
spectacular as its appearance. It has 800 billion suns and is 50,000 light years across.

The Ant Nebula, a cloud of dust and gas whose technical name is Mz3, resembles
an ant when observed using ground-based telescopes. The nebula lies within our
galaxy between 3,000 and 6,000 light years from Earth.

In third place is Nebula NGC 2392, called Eskimo because it looks like a face
surrounded by a furry hood. The hood is, in fact, a ring of comet-shaped objects
flying away from a dying star. Eskimo is 5,000 light years from Earth.

At four is the Cat's Eye Nebula

The Hourglass Nebula, 8,000 light years away, has a pinched-in-the-middle look because the winds that shape it are weaker at the centre.

The Perfect Storm, a small region in the Swan Nebula, 5,500 light years away,
described as 'a bubbly ocean of hydrogen and small amounts of oxy gen, sulphur
and other elements'.

Starry Night, so named because it reminded astronomers of the Van Gogh painting.
It is a halo of light around a star in the Milky Way.

The glowering eyes from 114 million light years away are the swirling cores of two merging galaxies called NGC 2207 and IC 2163 in the distant Canis Major constellation. (This one reminds me of owl eyes and the right eye also looks like an angel wing.)

The Trifid Nebula. A 'stellar nursery', 9,000 light years from here, it is where new stars are being born.

13 Books in Witch Dr's Library

Inspired by Sparky Duck's TT from two weeks back, I also decided to try the bookshelf meme. Sparky explains that "this is an attempt to learn something about the blogger (that would be me) from the books that they have read."

Official Rules:
"The rules are to provide a list of books that you have on your shelves to see if anyone can learn about you from them - but not just any books. They have to be books that you've actually paid for, nothing given, borrowed, stolen, or whatever."
1. The Ottomans prepared by Adbülkadir Dedeoglu
this is a hardcover I bought in the museum in Istanbul. Very interesting read about the Sultans and their lives.

2. The Persian Boy by Mary Renault.
I've read and reread this one. Simply divine! Also 3 different psychics have told me I was Bagoas in a past-life. Now that's pretty revealing...

3. The Prophet by Kahil Gibran
a real treasure - constantly referring to this book.

4. Tango by Collier, Cooper, Azzi, y Martin
My first tango book :)

5. The Chief The Life of William Randolph Hearst by David Nasaw
Since I'm working for Hearst Corp., I thought I should read it. A lot more revealing than Citizen Kane although I just adore Orson Welles.

6. The Supermarket Sorceress by Lexa Roséan
I have 3 copies and I think they are among the last 10 still circulating in print. This was, of course, my first published book on witchcraft. (hmm, this is the only book on the list that I didn't purchase - although I worked very hard to write it :)

7. The Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets by Barbara Walker
I've referred to this book so many times throughout the years that the pages are falling out.

8. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
Yeah, I bought it - way before they made it on Oprah. Not very impressed with the content but their marketing strategies are to kill for!

9. Secret Teachings of All Ages by Manly P. Hall
Now this has some real meaty SECRETS between the pages!

10. Complete collection of John Irving's works.
I love him!

11. Collected Fictions by Borges
my Bible.

12. "Degenerate Art" The Fate of the Avant-Garde in Nazi Germany
Very powerful. I saw the exhibition in Berlin of the original artworks banned by Hitler and bought this book there.

13. Moby Dick by Herman Melville
I own several additions of this work. Kind of an obsession.

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave a comment and then add your link to the Mr. Linky. It’s easy and fun!

On A Mission NO MORE WAR!!!

Ok, a few posts back, I was talking about the total eclipse of the moon. One of the dangers of this - especially taking physical action during this time - is that people DO NOT SEE CLEARLY. They can become delusional, irrational, have the WOOL PULLED OVER THEIR EYES. It seems that the DEVIL INCARNATE (FOX TV) is up to it's old tricks of perpetuating lies. I remember the BIG LIE in 2000 when they falsely claimed that Bush won the Florida vote (when in fact Gore did). FOX led the way and the rest of the networks followed announcing Bush as the winner resulting in a stolen election. Then Fox began to lie about Iraq. Now they are lieing about Iran in an attempt to lead us into another senseless war.
Below is a copy of an email I received from Democrats.com. This is scary stuff. We do not want another war. Especially with Iran. If people would only take the time to learn the truth about other cultures, they would not be so afraid. Especially a culture like Iran - the Persian people are a beautiful lot and have an ancient culture full of mysticism and goddess lore. They are educated and enlightened and unlike FOX, Iran is NOT an AXIS of EVIL! Take some action to stop the lies!

Dear Lexa,

As the 2008 campaign begins, Republicans are heading towards another crushing defeat like 2006.

So what is the Republican plan to steal the 2008 election? Is it to start another war - this time in Iran?

Our friends at Brave New Films have documented a new wave of FOX News lies about Iran that are frighteningly identical to the FOX News lies about Iraq.

Let's tell the other networks not to follow FOX News down the road to an even more disastrous war with Iran.

Bob Fertik

Dear Activist,

I remember very clearly the daily fearmongering led by FOX as they cheered for war with Iraq. The 24/7 images, sound effects, yelling and threatening were an ever-present drumbeat for war. We had to invade, and we had to invade now.. anyone who didn't see that was a traitor. They viciously attacked those of us who worked to get out the truth.

You'd think that with the complete failure in Iraq, those days would be behind us. Sadly, you'd be wrong.

Now FOX wants war with Iran.

It's almost too ridiculous to believe, but it's shockingly real. We've already compiled over 4 hours of FOX footage... the same images, sound effects, yelling and threatening that led the U.S. to invade Iraq is happening right now to sell a war with Iran. They are saying the exact same things!!

Here is the video evidence, side-by-side with what they said about Iraq.

But this time is different. We're prepared, and we have the means to alert people to what FOX is doing. Everyone has seen the terrible tragedy and the awful price paid by so many Iraqis and Americans. We know this is coming, and we can stop it.

It was about this time in the lead-up to the Iraq war when the other TV networks started following FOX's lead. As CNN's Christiane Amanpour says in the video, they were intimidated by FOX into cheerleading for the Iraq war.

WE CANNOT LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN.

This is a critical moment, and we must send a message to the major television networks urging them to ask tough questions, be skeptical, and tell us what is really happening. They must not follow FOX down the road to another war.

We've put together an open letter to the networks. Will you sign it?

Sign the letter

Please forward this message on to everyone you know. We must raise our voices now. This is so important, we cannot let history repeat itself.

Robert Greenwald
and the Brave New Films team

P.S. Here are some recent articles on war with Iran:

"The balance in the internal White House debate over Iran has shifted back in favour of military action before President George Bush leaves office in 18 months"
- The Guardian

Guidelines for Full Moon Lunar Eclipse

On August 28th, we will have a full moon in Pisces. It will also be the second total eclipse of the moon to occur in 2007. Witches believe that one should approach the lunar eclipe with caution and respect. It is a time for meditation and reflection and one will do best to seek wisdom and understanding during this influence. Although the Goddess instructs us that the full moon is the time of boons, it is advised to refrain from working magick for material gain during the eclipse. If you need prosperity, success, love, or some other wonderful wish, work your magick now. Have your spell, candle, chant, etc... complete by the 27th and use the actual day of the full moon (the 28th) for seeking the guidance and protection you need. Join the Memory Walk

A mind is a terrible thing to lose! Alzheimer's Disease is horrible and debilitating and it takes away the precious memories of those afflicted. The first case was diagnosed in 1901 by a German psychiatrist named Dr Alois Alzheimer. He diagnosed and followed the disease in a 50 year old patient and this disease that causes dementia and hardening of the arteries came to be know as Alzheimer's. Although there are several suggestions to reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's such as intellectual stimulation, ginkgo biloba, fruits and veggies and a low fat diet - still not enough is known about it. It's time to find a cure!
The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. The
Memory Walk is held annually in hundreds of communities across the country. It is an inspiring and worthwhile event and volunteers of all ages are needed to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer's. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $225 million. Team captains are needed NOW! You'll want to sign up early to make sure you have enough time to recruit your team and raise funds for the Alzheimer's! So sign up early and be a Team Captain!
