Thanks for the great question. Okra is a wonderful food & unfortunately an
oversite not to include in my book The Encyclopedia of Magickal Ingredients.
You are correct in calling attention to the green color of Okra. Many green colored foods (including Okra) can be worked with to draw fertility/prosperity. Seeded plants (such as grapes) are also used in money rituals and Okra contains white seeds which makes it especially good for cleansing and removing financial obstacles. Okra is one of the main staples of "soul food" and was also known as slave food. Unfortunately we are all (rich and poor), slaves to the current global economic problems and all of us could use a good infusion of Okra into our diets.

The fruit (vegetable) is also phallic shaped and that makes it a prime ingredient for sex magick. But perhaps the most magickal quality of "Gumbo" or Okra is it's texture. The uniquely sticky gooey characteristic that often turns folks off from eating it is exactly the reason why Okra yields such powerful spiritual benefits. Cook Okra in seafood gumbo for comfort, protection, and sustenance during hard times (regardless of the lunar cycle). It acts as a thickening agent on the spiritual level just as it does on the physical plane and will help to stretch whatever resources you have to cover your expenses until better times come along. It is good for getting jobs, money & financial opportunities to stick to you! Eat it on a new moon (and during waxing moon cycles) when looking for work or when you are freelancing and want to get return clients or referrals.

Okra is a member of the cotton family and has strong communication vibrations. Eat on Wednesday to help bring business from advertising. The cottons also ward off poverty, so eat anytime you feel in financial danger or hang and dry Okra flowers or fruit over the hearth to protect from financial disaster.
Finally, as I mentioned, the amazing Okra also has some special "tantric" properties. Eat pickled okra to last longer in bed. Cook okra with stewed tomatoes on a full moon and feed to a lover to keep him/her faithful and to give a "sticktuitiveness" to the relationship. It can also be eaten after a miscarriage to insure that the next pregnancy will stick and the woman will safely carry to full term. In this case, the okra should be sliced so the seeds are exposed, lightly sauteed with olive oil or butter and sea salt and shared by the couple on a new moon.

Love on Course

Hi Lexa,
Back in 2006 I made a love overture to this guy. I was unaware of the void moon of course. Two years down the road, I realized that when I made my overture the moon was void of course and all of the times we got together fell during a moon void of course. The last time we met was 5 months ago, we kissed and he told me he loves me but that was it. It was weird our relationship didn't move forward.

Is there a spell I can do to correct this? I also want to know what spell I can do to help me make me look strong and confident when we meet again. I like him so much but I tend to act nervous in front of him.

I dont know the year he was born but I know he's a Gemini and I'm a Libra.

Thank you for your question. Before I give your answer, I just want to explain to my readers the meaning of void of course moon. This is when the moon is traveling between two astrological signs and so basically the moon becomes directionless during this short period. You can locate the void of course moons by using a good astrological calendar. The one I recommmend is Jim Manard's Celestial Influences.
In order to correct this problem, I suggest you make your next contact on a New Moon. The next one coming up will be on June 3rd and it is in Gemini which is great for communication.

As for the second part to your question, eating cherries is great for boosting the confidence. I would also suggest eating avocados for beauty and taking a bath in fresh mint leaves and orange peel to infuse your aura with strong sexy vibes. Please keep me posted on how it goes.

I used the 'Win Your Ex Back' spell from The Supermarket Sorceress's Sexy Hexes on my ex, recently, and I've been really happy with the progress so far. But I was kinda worried about what I should do with the spell ingredients if he comes back? Cause I remember reading that if you take it apart or throw it away, that the magic might backfire.
Also there's been a lot of ants in my house lately, so what do I do if any ants get into it, or my little brother messes with it? Is there anyway to protect it from things like that without making it backfire?

Sorry about sending you another email... But I used the Win Your Ex Back spell, and it seems to be working a little too good... I'm scared it's hurting him, and I never really wanted to hurt him... Is there anyway that I can reverse the spell without making him hate me, or getting him out of my life completely? Or maybe at least tone down the spell and protect him? Cause I really miss him, but I feel really bad, and I can't stand to see him like this because of me....

I'm worried too. Why would this spell be hurting him? Are you working the Win Back your Ex or the Hex your Ex Spell?! At any rate, if you want to undo either spell without harm, soak all the ingredients in salt water for 3 days and then dispose of. If you are working the Win Back your Ex, dispose of the ingredients once the spell has worked. (ie: he has come back to you.)As far as the ants, if you want to continue working the spell, place the ingredients in a ziplock bag to protect them and keep the ants away. A couple of months ago I met a guy and we had been texting and emailing each other once in a while but never got a chance to hang out until just recently where it's pretty much become a sexual relationship. He works in the nightlife, is surrounded by women all the time and I just want to have him for myself! I've never had this type of situation and i really do like him. Is there any kind of spell to make our relationship flourish into something deeper....or i guess, if worse comes to worse at least something to keep the relationship we have?

You need help in the patience dept!!! The fact that you sent me the same question over 3 times in separate emails has honestly ANNOYED me! It does not give me a lot of faith in your patience to sustain a relationship or even the realistic workings of the kind of spells you would have to work in order to bring positive change into this situation.

You ask for change but yet say you are willing to keep the status quo. Which is it? For magick to be truly effective, we must be committed to it! If you want to arrive at a certain destination, you cannot keep turning round in the road to revisit a place you have already been.

Now if you want to keep the relationship going as it is, I suggest using aphrodisiac foods and herbs such as oysters, celery, mint. (For a full list, you'll need to consult my book The Encyclopedia of Magickal Ingredients.) Yes, you will need to cook for him and infuse these things into both of your diets. You will also need to make constant offerings to Aphrodite and/or other goddesses of sexual delight and passion.

With regard to the larger goal? I am not exactly clear about what you are asking? Do you want him to quit his job in "nightlife" so he will not longer be "surrounded by women all the time"? Is there something he has done to make you doubt that he can (or wants to be) exclusive with you? If so, then you are treading in dangerous territory, especially if you attempt to do magick to try and control him and his will. This type of magick often backfires.

There is a candle spell that can be prepared (it can be ordered through my website) to help a relationship develop deeper. One can also petition the love goddess Erzuli for such matters. She loves pink, roses, melons. You can also work with red figure candles (one male/one female). Rub the candles with a love oil of rose, lemon, and musk and burn them for 10 minutes for 7 nights. Each night move the candles closer to each other. On the last night (which should end up on a full moon) let the candles be touching each other and melt completely into each other. Also on the 7th night, let the 2 candles burn to completion. Each night you must sit in front of the candles while they are burning and visualize how you would like the relationship to develop so that you can get closer. Thanks for the kudos and your concern is understandable considering the planet heavily influences you. Both Taurus and Libra are ruled by Venus so you will be especially tuned in to all the subtle vibrations of this retrograde.

In general, romantic relationships can be strained when the planet of love trips the light fantastic a la Ginger Rogers*, just as communications are strained when Mercury the messenger goes through his backward motion. However, because Venus is transiting through Virgo, a healthy fight in couple's therapy could clear up years of bad air. This will be a great time to get to the bottom of things and figure out what has and what is going wrong and therefore you can prevent future problems. Look out though because as the planet moves back through Leo (Aug 13 - Sep 8), the egos take hold and we must take care not to let pride defeat love.

The saving grace of this retrograde is that when Venus transits through Leo, she will also be conjunct Saturn. This dance with big daddy is very favorable for forming long and stable unions. (Although marriage is not recommended during the retrograde.) The key is to be responsible in relationships and show up for the more serious issues in life.

Through your combined charts, it looks like you will have strong reactions to both the Leo and the Virgo aspects of this retrograde. Well, if you switch houses with the neighbors in between, you can all live together like the family on HBO's Big Love. Seriously though, I'm not quite sure how to advise you. He seems clear about what he wants but you don't seem at all clear about what you want. You sound somewhat resigned to the situation. Magick is usually not effective when there is no will or drive behind the ritual. You are not telling me that you want him to leave the girlfriend and be 100% faithful to you. In fact, it sounds like on some level you have accepted the polyamores arrangements. Figure out what YOU want - and then get back to me.

It's understandable that you're pissed off and I encourage you to channel that anger in a positive way to help release some of the poison in your relationship. I also imagine that you must be deeply hurt and in need of a good cry. So in the spirit of Patsy Cline, I offer you an ingredient more powerful than menstrual blood* to keep your man from cheating.

When tears come down like fallin' rain

you'll want to cry them out while calling his name. You'll also want to wet the corner of a bedsheet with your tears. Use it as you would a tissue or hanky to dry your eyes. It must be a sheet that you and he have slept together on (but not necessarily made love on although that would further empower the spell). Tear off the corner of this sheet with the tears soaked in and sprinkle some cumin inside. Cumin is used in spells to keep a mate from wandering and also prevents others from stealing your lover. Fold the sheet corner in half and stitch the open ends together (with the cumin inside) using white thread. However, this must be repeated on a monthly basis and it is considered borderline black magick as it is a way of controlling another individual. Lucky for you, the Blue Moon is coming up on May 31st. The Blue Moon is the second full moon that occurs in the same month. In May 2007, we had a full moon on May 2 and the Blue moon will occur on May 31. The Blue Moons are rare and occur about every 2 to 3 years. Witches believe they are a time for MIRACLES! The Moon will also be in Sagittarius and that is a very good sign for change of partners. Make sure to go out and gaze at the Blue Moon and ask the Goddess of Love to send you a miracle to make him notice you in that special way. You might also want to ask that your summer of love be fulfilled with him or a partner better suited to you. This is often the best way to approach love magick and creates a kind of loop pole against being manipulative. Working love magick on another person is often tricky and even considered "black magick". While reserving making any judgements on you, I will say that in my opinion your magic is ineffectual for the following reasons. Generally, when this type of magick is done, one person is OBSESSING over another. The obsessive person often does not release the magick but instead holds onto it. In essence your spell is like a big HELIUM BALLOON that you have BLOWN up. But instead of then letting go of the string and allowing the balloon to fly and float up in the cosmos, you are holding onto the string and bobbing up and down with it. Letting go would be equivalent to sending your prayer up above so that it may manifest down below. By holding on, the energy is not released so the person you are trying to work feels nothing. On the other hand, you end up feeling more and more. You'll need to let that "balloon spell" go and BLOW in the wind - that is if you haven't already BLOWN it! You'll need to know that magick such as this can have the opposite effect. The person may in fact begin to dislike you more and more as you work magick to gain their affections. Attempting to control another's will and affections can often have adverse effects especially if the soul you are working is a strong and spiritual one.

Here are some things I suggest to turn this energy around.

• approach him. flirt with him. find out on the real plane if he actually has any interest in you.
• work a spell to make yourself more magnetic and attractive. something to get yourself noticed as opposed to forcing another to have certain feelings for you.
• keep doing what you are doing but release the energy and that means BLOW him off. Pay him no mind. Don't even think about him and then see if he doesn't come around.

Story of St. Valentine

"The story of Valentine's Day begins in the third century with an oppressive Roman emperor and a humble Christian Martyr. The emperor was Claudius II.

Valentine was a priest in Rome at the time Christianity was a new religion. The Emperor Claudius II, ordered the Roman soldiers NOT to marry or become engaged. Claudius believed that as married men, his soldiers would want to stay home with their families rather than

fight his wars. Valentine defied the Emperor's decree and secretly married the young couples.

Claudius had ordered all Romans to worship twelve gods, and had made it a crime punishable by death to associate with Christians. But Valentine was dedicated to the ideals of Christ; not even the threat of death could keep him from practicing his beliefs. He was eventually arrested, and imprisoned.

During that time of Valentine's life a remarkable thing happened. Seeing that he was a man of learning, the jailer asked whether his daughter, Julia, might be brought to Valentine for lessons. She had been blind since birth. Julia was a pretty young girl with a quick mind. Valentine read stories of Rome's history to her. He described the world of nature to her. He taught her arithmetic and told her about God. She saw the world through his eyes, trusted his wisdom, and found comfort in his quiet strength.

"Valentine, does God really hear our prayers?" Julia asked one day. "Yes, my child, He hears each one." "Do you know what I pray for every morning and every night? I pray that I might see. I want so much to see everything you've told me about!" "God does what is best for us if we will only believe in Him," Valentine said. "Oh, Valentine, I do believe! I do!" She knelt and grasped his hand. They sat quietly together, each praying. Suddenly there was a brilliant light in the prison cell. Radiant, Julia screamed, "Valentine, I can see! I can see!"

"Praise be to God!" Valentine exclaimed, and he knelt in prayer. On the eve of his death Valentine wrote a last note to Julia, urging her to stay close to God. He signed it, "From your Valentine." His sentence was carried out the next day, February 14, 270 A.D., near a gate that was later named Porta Valentini in his memory. He was buried at what is now the Church of Praxedes in Rome. It is said that Julia planted a pink-blossomed almond tree near his grave. Today, the almond tree remains a symbol of abiding love and friendship. On each February 14, Saint Valentine's Day, messages of affection, love, and devotion are exchanged around the world." Valentine was beheaded on February 14th, the eve of the Roman holiday Lupercalia. After his death, Valentine was named a saint. As Rome became more Christian, the priests moved the spring holiday from the 15th of February to the 14th - Valentine's Day. Now the holiday honored Saint Valentine instead of Lupercus.*

As they say, all's fair in love and war but it's also best to play by the karmic rules of the game. These spells in which a drink or food is SPIKED are very common. In the old days, we even used to SPIKE a walkway or threshold by sprinkling powders that someone would walk across. But post 9/11 and the Anthrax scare, these things are not a good idea anymore. Also by SPIKING a drink with a love potion, you risk your magick backfiring. Suppose he doesn't drink it but passes it to someone else who you think is just absolutely retched! Yuck! Also, if he is strong willed, he may react adversely and begin to hate you. The best type of love magick is performed upon oneself. Here is an easy example: Take a bath in fresh oranges and mint leaves to increase your romantic allure. Or make a Love Shake in the blender by adding: 1/2 cup of milk, cup of spring water, 6 strawberries, a cored apple, three drops of vanilla extract, and crushed almonds. Drink this potion to attract attention from the person you desire and to knock out all competition. Another great spell is to take a bite from an apple and then offer it to the one your admire. If s/he takes a bite, it is a good sign that s/he will be yours. If the spell is sealed with a kiss within 24 hours, the love will be sure to last. Now you see, with this spell, you are giving your friend free will and free choice to accept or decline your offer of love.

The Aunt Clara Moment has passed. Here are the ingredients for the CONCENTRATION potion. Use to keep you focused on your tasks or whenever you want to stop the mind from drifting.
use equal parts:
Mastic
Cinnamon

This can be ground into a powder and kept in a bowl on your desk. If you use organic ingredients, you can also place under the tongue. It may also be burned as an incense on charcoal or made in oil form and used to anoint the third eye or a black candle.

Earlier I listed two ingredients that are actually part of a Master formula. (Ho, where was my mind DRIFTING?!) The THIRD INGREDIENT is Tongue of Dog or Deer's Tongue and before you go harming any animals, just HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!!! Deer's Tongue is an old Native American name for Wild Vanilla Grass.
